About

Tribulation doesn't just play death metal; they orchestrate a danse macabre, a gothic waltz between life and decay. Hailing from Sweden, the band carved a unique niche by fusing the brutality of old-school death metal with the atmospheric grandeur of black metal and the melodic sensibilities of classic heavy metal and gothic rock. Their sound, described as death rock, is characterized by haunting guitar harmonies, Johannes Andersson's raspy vocals, and a pervading sense of melancholic dread. Formed in 2005, Tribulation initially adhered to a more traditional death metal sound before undergoing a significant transformation with albums like "The Formulas of Death" and, crucially, "The Children of the Night" in 2015. This album marked their breakthrough, garnering critical acclaim and expanding their fanbase considerably. They continued their artistic evolution with "Down Below" (2018) and "Where the Gloom Becomes Sound" (2021), solidifying their status as innovators. Despite personnel changes, including the departure of guitarist Jonathan Hultén, Tribulation persists, pushing the boundaries of extreme metal with their distinctive blend of macabre imagery, intricate compositions, and captivating stage presence. Their influence is seen in younger bands exploring similar sonic territories, and their commitment to artistic integrity remains unwavering. Currently, they continue to tour and create, leaving a trail of gothic grandeur in their wake.
