About

Magma: Not just a band, but a universe unfolding in sound. Conceived in the fertile musical mind of Christian Vander, Magma is more than just prog rock; it's the originator and undisputed king of Zeuhl. This fiercely original genre, blending jazz fusion intricacies with operatic grandeur and a distinctly dark, almost Wagnerian drama, finds its narrative power in Vander’s constructed language, Kobaïan. Formed in 1969, Magma’s early albums like *1001° Centigrades* and the sprawling *Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh* (MDK) established their signature sound. MDK, a cornerstone of Zeuhl, remains a landmark of progressive music, influencing generations of musicians from avant-garde composers to metal bands. The band's career has been punctuated by lineup changes, each iteration adding a unique texture to the Magma soundscape. Beyond MDK, landmark albums like *Köhntarkösz* and *Üdü Ẁüdü* further expanded the Kobaïan mythology, showcasing Vander's virtuosity as a drummer, composer, and vocalist. Magma has collaborated with a rotating cast of exceptionally talented musicians, each adding their own flavor to Vander's vision. Still active today, Magma continues to tour and release albums, proving their unwavering dedication to their unique artistic vision. More than a band, Magma is a cult, a force, a sonic pilgrimage.
