About

Altın Gün doesn’t just reinterpret Turkish folk; they electrify it. This Amsterdam-based sextet rips through Anatolian psychedelia with a distinctly 21st-century edge, transforming dusty vinyl grooves into hypnotic, danceable anthems. Their sound, a vibrant tapestry woven from traditional saz melodies, propulsive basslines, swirling organs, and infectious vocals (sung in Turkish), draws heavily from the golden era of Turkish rock and funk of the 1970s, bands like Barış Manço and Erkin Koray. Formed in 2016 by bassist Jasper Verhulst after he became enamored with Turkish psychedelic music, Altın Gün quickly gained traction with their captivating live shows and a string of critically acclaimed albums. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Gece" in 2019, earning them a Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album. This recognition catapulted them onto the international stage, playing sold-out shows worldwide and gracing the stages of major festivals. Altın Gün's enduring appeal lies in their ability to honor their source material while injecting it with a fresh, undeniably modern energy. They're not just preserving a legacy; they're actively shaping its future. Continuously pushing their sound, recent projects explore deeper into synth-heavy soundscapes while maintaining their core essence.
