About

Zulu is the sonic embodiment of resistance, a Los Angeles-based hardcore punk band that channels raw emotion and unflinching social commentary into every riff and scream. Fronted by vocalist Anaiah Lei, the group blends powerviolence, hardcore, and hip-hop influences to create a sound that is as abrasive as it is cathartic. Their music is a rallying cry against systemic oppression, weaving themes of Black liberation, identity, and resilience into a visceral auditory experience. Since their formation in 2019, Zulu has rapidly ascended in the hardcore scene, earning acclaim for their electrifying live performances and their debut EP, *Our Day Will Come*. Their breakthrough came with the release of their first full-length album, *A New Tomorrow*, in 2023, which solidified their reputation as one of the most innovative voices in modern hardcore. The album’s genre-defying approach, incorporating soul samples and spoken word interludes, showcases their ability to push boundaries while staying rooted in punk’s DIY ethos. Zulu’s cultural impact extends beyond music. They are unapologetically political, using their platform to amplify Black voices and challenge the status quo. Their collaborations with artists like Soul Glo and Scowl highlight their commitment to community and solidarity within the punk scene. Currently, Zulu is touring extensively, bringing their incendiary energy to stages worldwide while working on new material that promises to further redefine hardcore’s possibilities.
