About

Richie Hawtin isn't just a DJ; he's a sonic architect, meticulously constructing minimalist techno landscapes that challenge and mesmerize. Born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, but raised in Windsor, Canada, Hawtin's proximity to Detroit nurtured his early obsession with electronic music. His sound, rooted in the stripped-down intensity of Detroit techno, branches into microhouse, ambient textures, and experimental sound design. Hawtin’s label, Plus 8 Records, co-founded with John Acquaviva, became a crucial platform for groundbreaking electronic music in the late '80s and early '90s. The formation of Minus in 1998 cemented his commitment to minimal techno's evolution. Beyond the decks, Hawtin's artistic vision extends to visual arts and technology. His CLOSE live performances, which dissect the DJ process with multi-camera setups, offer unprecedented insight into his creative workflow. Notable collaborations include Plastikman, F.U.S.E., and Concept 1. Currently, Hawtin continues to push boundaries with new projects and live performances, consistently re-evaluating the relationship between technology and musical expression, proving his enduring influence on electronic music culture.
