About Pothamus

Pothamus is a Dutch post-metal trio that has carved a niche for themselves in the heavy music scene with their atmospheric, genre-defying soundscapes. Hailing from the Netherlands, the band—comprising Ruben van Weeghel, Joris Bonis, and Joris Aerts—blends crushing riffs, ethereal textures, and hypnotic rhythms to create music that feels both primal and transcendent. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Neurosis, Cult of Luna, and Amenra, Pothamus crafts a sonic experience that is as meditative as it is visceral. Since their formation in 2015, Pothamus has steadily gained recognition for their immersive live performances and their ability to push the boundaries of post-metal. Their debut EP, *Raya*, and subsequent full-length album, *Pythia*, showcased their knack for blending doom-laden heaviness with intricate, atmospheric layers. The band’s breakthrough came with their 2021 album *Raya*, a concept-driven work that explores themes of transformation and rebirth, earning critical acclaim for its emotional depth and sonic innovation. Pothamus stands out not only for their musical prowess but also for their commitment to creating a holistic artistic experience. Their live shows often incorporate visual art and lighting design, enhancing the immersive quality of their sound. Collaborations with artists like Joost van den Broek (Epica, Ayreon) have further cemented their reputation as innovators in the genre. Currently, Pothamus is working on new material, promising to continue their exploration of heavy, atmospheric soundscapes. With their unique blend of intensity and introspection, Pothamus is a band that demands to be heard—and felt.
