About

Pennywise: more than just a punk band, they're a Southern California institution, a relentless sonic assault fueled by skate culture and a fierce commitment to political and social commentary. Emerging from Hermosa Beach in 1988, Pennywise quickly carved out a space for themselves with their signature brand of melodic hardcore punk, drawing heavily on the energy of Black Flag and the anthemic sensibilities of The Descendents. Their self-titled debut in 1991 established their breakneck speed and socially conscious lyrics, but it was albums like "About Time" and "Full Circle" in the mid-90s that cemented their place in the punk rock pantheon. A tragedy struck with the suicide of bassist Jason Thirsk in 1996, a loss which resonated deeply within their music and community. Despite lineup changes, including the brief departure and return of vocalist Jim Lindberg, Pennywise has remained a constant force, releasing a steady stream of albums that tackle themes of injustice, environmental concerns, and the importance of unity. More recently, their 2018 album "Never Gonna Die" proved their enduring relevance, showcasing the same raw energy and defiant spirit that has defined them for over three decades. Pennywise isn't just playing music; they’re starting a conversation.
