About

Ifriqiyya Électrique doesn't just blend the sacred and profane; they detonate the boundaries between them. Born from the ashes of a Tunisia grappling with religious extremism, the Franco-Tunisian collective channels the raw, ecstatic energy of Banga, a trance ritual practiced by descendants of sub-Saharan African slaves in Tunisia, through a searing electronic filter. Think of it as a post-industrial rave held in a Sufi shrine. Their sound is a potent cocktail of electronic body music (EBM), industrial techno, and the haunting vocals of Banga practitioners, creating a sonic landscape both ancient and futuristic. The project, conceived by François Cambuzat and Gianna Carini, gained momentum through collaborations with Tunisian Banga masters and their own electrifying live performances. Their albums, including the critically acclaimed "Rûwâhîne," have garnered international attention for their unflinching exploration of faith, identity, and resistance. Beyond the music, Ifriqiyya Électrique is a cultural statement, a powerful re-imagining of tradition through the lens of modern electronic music, a defiant roar against cultural stagnation. Their ongoing tours continue to ignite dance floors worldwide, spreading their message of ecstatic rebellion.
